The rehabilitation of Lisbon’s Estufa Fria involved the careful dismantling of the original steel structure, dating from the early 20th century and in the process of collapsing, for a more robust but also more ambitious structure raised significantly, which allowed the larger tree species to have greater longevity. The project, a partnership between the Falcão de Campos and Appleton Domingos architectural offices, included making the infrastructures compatible: the steel structure was designed to route irrigation and lighting networks inside the columns.
